Date: 23/09/2010
Location: Putteridge Bury Conference Centre
Time: 18.00 - 18.30 registration and coffee
Cost: £10 (including VAT) and includes locally produce, wine, finger buffet and networking
Speakers: Dr Sally Everett, Head of Leisure and Tourism and Julie West, CEO of Tastes of Anglia
The aim of the event is to raise awareness and understanding about the growing importance of Food Tourism: What is it? Why is it important? Why should consumers buy locally produced food? How can it benefit local economies? What support is there for local producers? Why does it matter to those not directly involved in food or tourism?
The two speakers for the evening are: Dr Sally Everett, Head of Tourism and Leisure at the University of Bedfordshire and Julie West, CEO of Tastes of Anglia. Sally will present the findings of an industry-funded, year-long research project into food tourism and the benefits it can bring to rural economies. Sally will be joined by a prominent guest speaker from the world of food tourism in what promises to be a fascinating evening for all of those interested in food, tourism and developing sustainable initiatives for rural communities and regions looking for much-need income streams.
There will also be a range of local producers to provide their produce for you to sample. Included on the menu will be locally produced cheeses, jams, preserves, wines, beers, chillies, sausage rolls, pies and chocolates.
